Shia LaBeouf, an actor, was arrested early Tuesday in New Orleans for suspected violence after spending the long weekend partying throughout the city during Mardi Gras.

The New Orleans police department reported that at around 12.45 a.m. on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to Faubourg Marigny, next to the French Quarter, the epicenter of the festivities, where LaBeouf was allegedly growing increasingly belligerent at the Royal Street Inn and Bar.

According to court filings, the bar manager sought to take LaBeouf out of the establishment, and the actor allegedly tried to attack him. After being removed, the actor allegedly assaulted a male patron who was assisting the bar manager, before returning and hitting another man in the nose.

LaBeouf was then restrained by bystanders until police arrived and took him to the hospital. He was eventually released, arrested, and charged with two counts of simple violence.

He is due to make his first court appearance on Tuesday afternoon, just as New Orleans’ weeks-long annual carnival celebration reaches its finale.

Thousands of people, many dressed in various costumes, congregated inside and outside the Royal Street Inn and Bar later Tuesday. A bartender and a bouncer at the establishment said LeBeouf is not welcome again after being released from detention.

The celebrity rumor website TMZ published a video of LaBeouf, allegedly recorded early Tuesday morning, in which he is shirtless and conversing with another individual. According to reports, the footage then shows paramedics tending to the actor.

For several days, reports of LaBeouf engaging in disorderly behavior have circulated across New Orleans. Robert Skuse, the doorman of Ms Mae’s, a local bar, told the Hollywood Reporter that the actor arrived in a “somewhat belligerent state”.

“In the middle of the mayhem, he did the ‘Do you know who I am?’ bit,” Skuse said.

LaBeouf was reportedly asked to leave after attempting to get behind the bar and offer beverages to patrons.

LaBeouf has previously spoken about his problems with sobriety, thanking fellow stars Mel Gibson, Sean Penn, and Josh Brolin for their support. He went to court-ordered rehab following a 2017 arrest in Savannah, Georgia, which inspired his semi-autobiographical film Honey Boy.

In 2020, FKA Twigs, the English singer whose real name is Tahliah Barnett, sued LaBeouf for sexual battery, assault, and cause of emotional distress, claiming a history of “relentless” harassment.

In the lawsuit and an interview with the New York Times, Barnett said that LaBeouf, whom she dated from 2018 to 2019 after meeting on the set of Honey Boy, intentionally exposed her to a sexually transmitted infection, attempted to strangle her, and pushed her against a car. LaBeouf has denied all claims of wrongdoing. They struck an agreement in July 2025.
