Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, will visit Punjab on November 26-27, 2025, for direct interactions with farmers and beneficiaries of rural development projects such as MGNREGA. During his visit, he will also meet with office bearers and representatives from several stakeholder institutions engaged with these programs.

Shri Chouhan, the Union Minister in charge of the national agenda for agricultural progress and rural empowerment, will use his visit to Punjab to assess the on-the-ground progress of ongoing schemes and provide guidance for future action plans.

The projected schedule states that Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will arrive in Amritsar on the night of November 26 and travel to the village of Ransih Kalan in Moga district the next morning. This town is known as a model for its environmentally friendly practices, crop residue management, and active community participation. The Minister will engage in open discourse with farmers and villages about environmental conservation, on-farm difficulties, natural resource preservation, crop diversification, and ways to increase agricultural revenue. He will also hear about innovations used locally through community projects.

Following his interaction in Moga, the Union Minister will travel to the K.L. Saigal Memorial Hall in Jalandhar to meet with MGNREGA beneficiaries and discuss the program’s significance in job creation, livelihood security, and rural infrastructure development. This debate will centre on improving MGNREGA’s impact on rural livelihoods and its integration with other sustainable development programs.

Following this engagement, Shri Chouhan will preside over a review conference of central and state government officials in Jalandhar’s District Administrative Complex. This high-level seminar will provide a thorough examination of several rural development programs, including as housing, roads, livelihoods, self-help organisations, and skill development. Progress updates, difficulties, and solutions for enhanced implementation will be thoroughly reviewed, resulting in better cooperation between national and state-level rural projects.

Shri Chouhan will hold a news conference following the review session at the District Administrative Complex. During the briefing, he will discuss the Central Government’s priorities for farmers and rural communities, provide updates on recent policy decisions, and emphasise the specific focus on Punjab in planned agricultural and rural development programs.

Later in the day, the Union Minister would visit the ICAR-Central Potato Research Institute (CPRI) at Badshahpur, Jalandhar, to interact with farmers and agricultural scientists. Discussions will centre on the institute’s involvement in increasing farmers’ earnings by providing high-quality potato seeds, improved crop types, and hands-on technical training. For decades, this centre has played an important role in distributing excellent seeds and innovative technology to farmers in Punjab and northern India, considerably contributing to productivity enhancement and value addition in regional agriculture.

After a full day of field engagements and debates, Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan will travel from Amritsar Airport for New Delhi.

Shri Chouhan’s visit aims to strengthen direct communication between Punjab farmers, MGNREGA workers, and rural communities and the Central Government. It is also expected to improve national agriculture and rural development policy by incorporating evidence-based feedback from field experiences. By more closely connecting central plans with local requirements, the government hopes to improve the effectiveness, responsiveness, and outcome of its development initiatives.

Union Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has spent the last few months travelling across states, meeting with farmers and rural residents in person. Through these grassroots connections, he hopes to guarantee that policy formulation is based in the realities and ambitions of those it serves. His guiding philosophy is that genuine development cannot take place without firsthand knowledge of field conditions and direct feedback from farmers and people on their challenges, innovations, and expectations.
