On Wednesday (December 10th, 2025), Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated in the Legislative Assembly the new measures that the government is implementing to improve police efficiency. In his announcement, he stated that “the government will work on equipping traffic officers with Body Worn Cameras in phases.” In Goa, only police officers with BWCs can issue challans.

He also revealed that the system will be implemented in phases, with large cities in the state being the first to be tested. “A team lead by a senior officer will investigate technology-related practices around the world and in various states. Based on its recommendations, a policy will be implemented within the next three months,” he added.

The revelation came while Fadnavis was addressing concerns voiced by both ruling and opposition MLCs during question hour, who lambasted traffic police officials for using personal cell phones when issuing e-challans

The move aims to increase openness and reduce corruption by documenting encounters between police and residents. It also aims to safeguard police officers from false accusations and assaults.

This directive is a direct step toward restoring public faith, which has been damaged by sporadic episodes of police misbehavior and complaints about the e-challan process when carried out on private, unmonitored devices.
